Metamorphy

Blessings spread and disseminate around the world through physical contact with sacred Buddhist objects such as relics and prayer wheels. The interactive work Metamorphy (2014), created by Scenocosme, is similarly activated by touch. Sensory contact with the artwork creates tangible yet transient images that are specific to the person engaging with it. Touching and pushing Metamorphy’s circular membrane creates distinct environments with light and sound. The ephemeral images change depending on the pressure of the individual’s touch on the special fabric suspended in front of a projector and large mirror. Each interaction generates images evocative of traditional mandalas, which represent worlds where deities reside.

The interactive artwork Metamorphy reflects how the digital realm is ever-present and at the same time invisible in our lives. Within the environment of Metamorphy, interactions between people and technology evolve and manifest new ways of relating with technology physically.

This symbolic “skin” has an elasticity incorporated within the process of metamorphosis: the veil is stretched when the spectator interacts with it and reforms back when idle. The exploration of depths into the veil reveals various meditative universes, through organic, liquid, or incandescent substances. Metamorphy creates ambiguity between a real physical space and the virtual space that materializes from the mirror’s reflection and the video projections.
