Everyone Is Divine

Sikhism recognizes the divine potential in every individual, according to its adherents. This religious tradition challenges all social inequalities, including those based on class, caste, gender, and profession, and envisions a more inclusive future. Join practising Sikhs to celebrate the vibrant festival of Vaisakhi, especially as it relates to women and equality, and learn about the living traditions of the fifth largest religion on earth.

Kaurageous Love, an organization supporting Sikh women, will share their experience of how Sikhism is practiced in New York, and teacher Sharan Bir Kaur Gill will lead a Kundalini breathing exercise. Afterwards, experience the energy and joy of Bhangra, the famous Sikh folk dance, with a lesson from the Kaurageous group. This intergenerational program is presented with community partner India Home, one of the only nonprofits in the New York area offering culturally appropriate services to South Asian seniors, the largest organization of its kind in New York.

About the Speakers

Since 2008, India Home has been improving the quality of life for immigrant South Asian seniors by providing them with an array of services in a warm, caring, culturally sensitive environment. By balancing the day-to-day needs of community with advocacy at the city and state level, India Home gives seniors a say in the issues that directly impact their lives, including increased access to transportation services and better language access policies.

Kaurageous Love is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization focused on female empowerment, philanthropy, and education efforts in primarily South Asian communities.
