Family Sundays are in person at the Rubin! Bring your family to the Rubin Museum’s new space, the Mandala Lab, for an afternoon of creativity and self-exploration that both kids and grown-ups will enjoy.

Preregistration is required for either the 1:00 PM or 2:00 PM time slots. The program is free for your family, and each ticket comes with free access to the Museum galleries. Each month we explore a new theme, with an art-making activity centered around that theme. A Museum educator does a brief demonstration of the project, teaches the art-making techniques, and lets you explore ways to make the project your own.

March Family Sundays: Prayerful Losar

The Rubin Museum is celebrating Losar, the Tibetan New Year! One of the most important festivals in the Tibetan calendar, Losar is marked with an effort to cleanse and purify. The New Year is an opportunity to say “goodbye” to the negatives of the past year and invite all good, positive things into our lives.

Prayer flags are an important feature of Losar. They feature mantras written on them that are thought to purify the air that passes through them and permeate throughout the land. For this month’s Family Sunday, families are invited to create their own inspired prayer flags with messages of hope for the future as an embracement of the new year to come!
