Rubin Museum Live-Streams Its First Periscope Tour

Earlier this week, viewers from across the world tuned in to the Museum’s first live-streamed tour on Periscope, a new app that allows users to broadcast real-time videos through their Twitter accounts.

Led by Bill Appleton, Director of Education and Engagement, and Tashi Chodron, Adult and Academic Outreach Programs Coordinator, the tour focused on “Honoring Nepal,” our new exhibition celebrating the artistic achievements of Nepalese artists in the wake of the two devastating earthquakes that hit the country in the spring. The show is free to the public and is located on the first floor of the Museum in the Spiral Lobby.

Tour highlights included a visit to the highly revered 11th-century sandstone Ganesha, which visitors often make wishes upon by placing coins and dollar bills into the sculpture’s niches. “It doesn’t matter whether it’s a dollar or a penny,” said Tashi. “If you give it full devotion, your wish will be granted.”
