Brent Arnold and Aditya Kalyanpur

Electroacoustic Cello and Tabla

Wednesday, 7.17.19
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Cellist and composer Brent Arnold and tabla master Aditya Kalyanpur will delve into the interactions between the tabla drum and the electroacoustic cello through looping, layering, and experimenting with different ways of modulating the cello and tabla.

Kalyanpur’s virtuosic tabla playing can give a few scattered notes a powerful, propulsive weight, or unleash volcanic layers of rhythm. Arnold’s polyglot music moves far beyond the classical, using live electronic processing of the cello to create layered, orchestral weight or otherworldly effects. Their compositions juxtapose the tight interplay of Indian classical music with a cinematic sense of space.

Tonight’s concert will feature new pieces from Arnold and Kalyanpur that are more acoustic in nature, as well as the world premiere of two new works.

Presented with Harrice Miller Entertainment.
