Creative Energy and Sound Vibration

Two musical masterminds discuss creativity and the flow of inspiration and energy from past to future, before their concert together. The conversation will take place in and be inspired by the exhibition The Second Buddha: Master of Time and the ancient energy encoded in its art.

Adam Rudolph, artistic director of Go: Organic Orchestra, which embraces musical forms and cosmologies from around the world, has spent a lifetime studying sound and mysticism. David Ellenbogen is artistic director of Brooklyn Raga Massive, a music collective presenting Indian classical and cross-cultural, raga-inspired music blended with other traditions.

The two groups perform together in the Rubin theater at 7:00 PM, creating a 28-piece ensemble that promises to open new avenues of sonic exploration.

About the Artists

Adam Rudolph, “a pioneer in world music” (New York Times) and a “master percussionist” (Musician), has a creative, forward-thinking vision. His collaboration with Brooklyn Raga Massive, known as “leaders of the Raga Renaissance” (New Yorker), promises to open new avenues of sonic exploration.

Adam Rudolph has spent a lifetime studying sound and mysticism, which informs the music he creates with luminaries like Yusef Lateef, Pharoah Sanders, Philip Glass, and Zakir Hussein.

Go: Organic Orchestra is a 21st-century vision of an orchestra of the future. Artistic director Adam Rudolph’s prototypical approach to composing and improvisational conducting embraces musical forms and cosmologies from around the world.

David Ellenbogen is a musician, producer, and radio host who has recently made waves with the Brooklyn Raga Massive collective. Their boundary-pushing programming and exciting performances have led to many sold-out shows and praise from the New York Times for “preserving the past while blurring genres in an inventive spirit,” and the Wall Street Journal for “expanding the notion of what raga—the immersive, epic form of Indian music—can mean.”

Ellenbogen is the producer of ambitious musical events like the twenty-four-hour Ragas Live Festival and the Africa/India Series, all while playing guitar with a who’s who of New York’s world music scene. He has facilitated many sound and yoga retreats, from the Catskills to Costa Rica.
