Naked Soul

Friday, 3.8.19
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM

Singer, composer, and producer Morley weaves the threads of jazz, soul, and folk traditions into a singular tapestry of vocal and acoustic splendor—the sound wave of a life lived with uncommon devotion to human rights and environmental justice. Raised in vibrantly multicultural Jamaica, Queens, and educated at the United Nations School, Duke Ellington High School for the Performing Arts, and Alvin Ailey, Morley has traveled the world to sit and sing with visionaries on the frontiers of social change. Her music has appeared on network television shows and in human rights documentaries, and it has moved minds and spirits as diverse as His Holiness The Dalai Lama, entrepreneur Richard Branson, and former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. Morley has graced stages as wide-ranging as the Nomad Women’s Festival in the Sahara Desert and Carnegie Hall. Thousand Miles, Morley’s most recent and sixth studio album, is the culmination of a global journey to sites of incredible resilience and tremendous trauma—in the United States, Rwanda, Hiroshima, the open uranium mines at the Pine Ridge Reservation in the Black Hills—where human dignity, love, and resolve are expanding the frontiers of change, justice, and healing.

About Naked Soul

Naked Soul presents performances from some of the country’s top singer/songwriters without microphones or amplifiers, as if the music were, acoustically speaking, naked. The musicians in the series draw upon the universal themes inherent in Himalayan art—spirituality, peace, tolerance, wisdom, compassion—on select Friday evenings.
