Prasanna

Friday, 4.14.17
7:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Sold Out

After selling out two shows back to back in 2016, Indian guitar master Prasanna returns to the Rubin and promises an adventurous musical journey unlike anything you’ve ever heard–Carnatic Indian music on the electric guitar, a true first at the Rubin.

Alongside works of the great Carnatic Composers like Tyagaraja, Diskhitar, and Syama Sastri, Prasanna will interpret masterworks by Coltrane, Ravel, Illayaraja, Led Zeppelin, and A.R. Rahman, presenting them in a Raga-based Carnatic setting. He will also explore the concept of mantra and how it inspires his work and sound.

Riffing on Shakespeare, Prasanna says, “If music be the food of love, play on! I want to serve you all a hand-cooked traditional Indian musical meal with spices from around the world!”

Prasanna will be joined by Rohan Krishnamurthy on mridangam, kanjira.

This concert is presented with Harrice Miller Entertainment and Sunny Thakkar.
