Prasanna master-2

Prasanna

Rhythms of India

Friday, 11.10.17
6:30 PM - 8:00 PM

After his sold-out show earlier this year, the hugely popular Indian guitar master Prasanna returns to the Rubin to present two exciting and contrasting sets: Carnatic G Force and Global Bollywood.

Referencing the two current exhibits at the Rubin, which inspired him to create a very personal musical storyline for the evening, Prasanna says, “The World Is Sound! I want to take the audience with me on a sonic journey, from the Carnatic South to India in Full Frame, seen through the wide-angle lens of Bollywood. Be sure to catch some panoramic vistas of jazz, rock, reggae, and classical music at various scenic viewpoints.”

Carnatic G Force

The pioneer and ambassador of Carnatic guitar, Prasanna will present an electrifying set of compositions by India’s most revered composers like Tyagaraja, Muthuswamy Dikshitar, and Syama Sastri, with a modern sensibility in improvisation and orchestration. With the unique combination of two electric guitars and a ghatam, audiences are in for quite a ride. Prasanna will play with two young prodigies of Carnatic music in America: explosive guitarist Shiam Kannan and the wonder girl of the ghatam Samyuktha Sreeram

Buyers of tickets to both sessions will have access to an exclusive performance of audience requests beginning at 6:00 p.m. These guests will be admitted into the theater at 5:50 p.m. and will get first choice of seats.

This concert is presented with Harrice Miller Entertainment. Sunny Thakkar is a community partner.
