Slow Art Day

Gallery Activities and Tours

Saturday, 4.6.19
12:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Free with Museum Admission

If you’re like most museum visitors, you spend less than 30 seconds looking at each work of art. We invite you to linger and participate in Slow Art Day 2019, a worldwide event encouraging the thoughtful exploration of art.

Through a series of gallery programs and tours, you can transform the way you experience the art in our galleries. Sit with individual pieces of art for an extended period of time to allow for deeper reflection and greater understanding of the work. Participate in gallery activities to explore this understanding and your individual reactions to art.

If you’ve ever practiced meditation, you know that attempting to break habits and focus the mind is no easy feat. Like mindfulness, the deep looking encouraged during Slow Art Day is a lifelong skill that will continue to provide rewarding experiences in museums and galleries for years to come.

“To view art slowly is to take the time to be fully present and to initiate a meaningful conversation between one’s own mind and heart and that of the artist.” —Jiawen, Rubin Museum docent
