In her new memoir, pet trainer Nikki Moustaki details how she reversed a downward spiral into alcoholism by a visit to the bird market of Paris, where something astonishing happened. With psychiatrist Dr. Amy Banks (Four Ways to Click: Rewire Your Brain for Stronger, More Rewarding Relationships) she analyzes how the brain can be reconfigured to avoid destructive habits. A book signing will follow the program.
About the Speakers
Nikki Moustaki is the author of twenty-five books on the care and training of exotic birds. She holds an MA in creative writing, poetry, from New York University, an MFA in creative writing, poetry, from Indiana University, and an MFA in creative writing, fiction, from New York University. She has received a National Endowment for the Arts grant in poetry, as well as many other national writing awards. She splits her time between New York City and Miami Beach.
Amy Banks, M.D., was an instructor of psychiatry at Harvard Medical School and is now the director of Advanced Training at the Jean Baker Miller Training Institute at the Wellesley Centers for Women. She has a private practice in Lexington, Massachusetts, which specializes in relational psychopharmacology and therapy for people who suffer from chronic disconnection.
