  • What is the Volunteer Docent Program?

The Volunteer Docent Program facilitates a connection between museum visitors and Himalayan art. By providing visitors with engaging, informative experiences in the galleries, the Volunteer Docent Program encourages museum-goers to look and and think deeply while exploring the arts, culture, religion, and iconography of Tibet, India, the Himalayas, and surrounding regions.

No prior art history background or work experience is required to participate in the program. Prospective Volunteer docents should be comfortable working and communicating with the public. Docents must be available for a 10 week orientation.

Please note that all docents must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 at the start of orientation.

  • All volunteers in the Rubin Museum of Art Docent Program are required to possess the following: A passionate interest in the culture and arts of the Himalayas; an enthusiasm and willingness to learn new things and the interest in sharing this with others.
