Honoring Nepalese Cultural Heritage after the 2015 Earthquakes
On April 25, 2015, a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Nepal. More than 40% of the country was affected, leaving thousands dead and forcing millions from their homes.
In the Kathmandu Valley alone, 120 monuments incurred partial damage, and more than 30 collapsed completely. Each monument housed valuable works of art that are now lost or in danger. The destruction in Nepal was a reminder of the critical need to honor and preserve the country’s cultural heritage.
Nepal’s unique mix of religious and cultural influences are found nowhere else. Wood carvings, metal castings, and paintings crafted by Nepalese artisans are unmatched in quality.
