What is the format of a Saturday Family Art Lab?
Here’s a schedule of a typical Art Lab:
2:00-2:10 p.m. Welcome and sign-in 2:10-2:25 p.m. Presentation on Art Lab theme 2:30-3:00 p.m. Gallery exploration 3:00-4:00 p.m. Art-making Each month we explore a new theme. The art-making activity will be centered on that special theme. Your Museum Educator will guide your art-making with techniques and a brief demonstration of the project and will then let you explore a variety of art materials for making the project on your own. Creativity is encouraged! top
What are the goals of Family Art Labs?
Our main goal is for you and your family to have a fun experience together at the Rubin Museum of Art. Other goals include learning about something new – whether it’s Himalayan puppetry, gold-leafing, mask-making or sand mandalas! top
How can I prepare my kids for our visit to the Rubin Museum of Art?
Before your visit:
- Talk about the museum rules with your child (NO running. NO food or drink. NO touching the artworks).
- Discuss with your child the theme of the Art Lab and what they might do/see.
- Find out what exhibitions will be open during your visit.
Is it required that both child and adult participate in all Family Art Lab activities?
We strongly believe that children learn best with the presence and support of a significant adult. Your enthusiasm and participation will encourage your child to be fully engaged in the workshop. top
Will we be able to draw in the galleries?
Yes. ONLY pencils are allowed in the galleries (NO crayons, pens, or markers). During the gallery exploration portion of the Art Lab, your family will be given an Activity Guide for drawing purposes and to help create a more engaging museum experience. top
What if I bring more than one child or more than one adult?
Tickets are $16 for first adult/child pair and $16 each additional child. Additional adults are asked to pay regular museum admission fees. Children under 1 get in free. top Back to Family Programs
